What is the "Take A Load Off, TexasSM" LivingWise® Program?
The hands-on "Take A Load Off, Texas" LivingWise Program is designed to educate sixth grade science students about using energy resources wisely. Program content supports Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), so you can provide this fun-filled enrichment program while meeting state standards.

How long does it take to implement the "Take A Load Off, Texas" LivingWise Program?
The Program is designed to enrich your existing curriculum; therefore, the timeline is flexible, to meet your needs. Generally, the Program lasts between four and 10 classroom hours. You can spend a minimum of one class or subject session, however, and as much as a month or longer. It's up to you.

How much does the Program cost?
The "Take A Load Off, Texas" LivingWise Program is provided by Oncor at NO COST to you, your school, or your school district. Schools located within Oncor's service area are eligible to participate. Please call 1-866-905-5778 to determine if your school is eligible.

Who sponsors the Program?
The "Take A Load Off, Texas" LivingWise Program is provided by Oncor as part of the company's commitment to reduce energy consumption and demand. Resource Action Programs implements the LivingWise Program as an independent contractor.

What is included in the Program?
The "Take A Load Off, Texas" LivingWise Program comes complete with teacher education materials, lesson plans, activity books, and other engaging activities that can be used inside and outside the classroom. Each teacher and sixth grade student will receive an individual Student Guide, Student Workbook, and Energy Savings Kit. This Kit includes products that will help students implement classroom lessons at home. Kit items include a high efficiency showerhead, two compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), a kitchen aerator, a digital thermometer, and much more!

What are the participation requirements?
Participation requirements are minimal. All we ask in return for your participation in the Program is that your students pledge to save energy every day and complete a short Scantron Form. The Scantron Form contains four short surveys. Survey responses help us gauge the knowledge gained by each student during the Program. If your students take the pledge and return their Scantron Forms, each student will receive a "Take A Load Off, Texas" T-shirt and "Take A Load Off, Texas" Wristband! A self-addressed postage paid return envelope is provided in the Teacher Materials Folder so that you may return your students' completed Pledge Forms, Scantron Forms, and Teacher Program Evaluation.

Is there an enrollment deadline?
The Program is offered on a first-come, first-served basis until funding and materials are exhausted.

Is there a participation size limit?
No. The "Take A Load Off, Texas" LivingWise Program will provide as many sets of materials needed by your class until funding is depleted.

Is there someone who can speak to my school or classroom?
No. The "Take A Load Off, Texas" LivingWise Program does not currently provide classroom or assembly speakers. In special circumstances, however, we may be able to accommodate your requests. Please call 1-866-905-5778 for more information.
